Information
New students are introduced to The Holistic Arts Academy through the art of Thai Boxing (Muay Thai). We utilize Thai Boxing as a means of both teaching the students to use their attributes (Kicks Punches, Knees & Elbows), and providing entry into grappling through the clinch.

This gives the students a basis for understanding range/distance, and what movements can be applied to them from a defensive perspective.

We believe this is the most practical approach to applying Thai Boxing as a means of Self Defense, considering the nature of the Art being primarily a form of attack.

Alongside this, we teach historical elements of Thai Boxing and the traditional Thai dance named Wai Kru. This dance shows respect for the art and allows the student to gain a better understanding of the form of Thai Boxing.

Universal Arts of Combat
(UAC)

The Universal Arts of Combat refers to the various Martial Arts a student of the Holistic Arts Academy will practice. These arts include; Thai Boxing, Western Boxing, Silat, Ancient Karate, Tai Chi, Grappling and Eskrima.
With the basis provided from Thai Boxing, students will be given a detailed introduction to Self Defense through the use of Ancient Karate & Tai Chi Forms. This enables them to traverse within the Universal Arts of Combat, and allows us to integrate
the concept of The Hidden Warrior.

The Hidden Warrior

The Hidden Warrior is a concept referring to the other side of a form (kata). This concept allows a student to refer a defensive reaction to an opposing attack, in relation to a series of movements (Form).
Once a student is proficient in the use of this concept, they will be able to practice techniques from any given system with an unrestricted ability to respond to the potential counters of any movement. Thus, allowing fluidity of action regardless of what an attacker may present.

Self Defense

The fundamental law of Self Defense is Cause and Effect - what an attacker does will facilitate an equal response.
The reaction will be whatever is necessary to repel the attacker. The phrase, "...It is better to evade than it is to punch, better to punch than it is to maim, better to maim than it is to kill..." perfectly depicts this.
Self Defense provides you with the ability to avoid unnecessary action, that may result in a fatality, while allowing people to feel safe and protected within themselves.
